2020 Season | COVID-19 Response

Dear Technovation[MN] Community,

These times are unprecedented, and we sincerely hope you and your families are healthy and safe. This community is defined by our collective compassion, resilience, and ingenuity, and we will pull through this challenging time together.

The safety of our communities is of the utmost importance to us, which is why Appapalooza 2020, as well as any remaining in person events for Technovation[MN], have been canceled.

The amazing thing about our program is that it can continue in extraordinary times like these. Team registration and completion deadlines have been extended (see details below). We encourage you to meet with your teams virtually.

Here are a few tips and tools for enhancing your online meeting experience.

Virtual Tools

Keeping the momentum of sparking interest in technology and entrepreneurship is important in times like this to build online community, to showcase the importance of technology, and to prepare a new generation of diverse teams with tools to mitigate and prevent situations such as the current.

While no other experience can duplicate the excitement of judging live pitches for local teams, judges are still an important role in this process. Judges are needed. You are encouraged to register as a judge for the global program. All Minnesota teams completing the challenge, will submit to the global program and judges will assess all global entries. Judge signup is not open at this time, but you can fill out a form here to be notified when registration is open. More information on judging can be found here (choose the ‘judge’ role). Judging dates are shown below.

We know this is a difficult time for us all — we are working hard to ensure Technovation[MN] continues to provide an exceptional online learning experience and opportunity to support our Minnesota communities. All of our curriculum is online, and we are here to support you as we adapt to a different way of learning for the coming months.

Learn more about the changes to our 2020 season below.

Deadlines and date changes – To help you manage the changing dynamics, we are extending some of our deadlines.

  • Registration: Extended to March 30th, 23:00 UTC.
  • Submission: Extended to May 4th, 19:00 UTC. All teams must submit online to be eligible for judging.
  • Judging dates
    • Round 1: May 6th – June 8th
    • Round 2 (Semifinals): June 15th – June 26th

In-person meetings with teams and mentors: All meetings should be moved online to a virtual environment.

Judging and judging events:  All submissions will be judged via Technovation’s online portal.

If you are unable to access computers or complete the learning online: At this time, we recommend you pause your learning, perhaps until our 2021 season. Although we know everyone has been pouring incredible effort into their work this season, we must prioritize public health and safety.

Thank you for learning and building a better world with us. We are confident in the power of our communities to create positive experiences amid these unprecedented circumstances. Please remember that we are here to support you.

Onward,
Technovation[MN] Team
