Here are some upcoming opportunities for girls and young women interested in coding. All are free but registration is required, and space is limited, so register soon to avoid disappointment. We hope you can come have fun exploring computer science — and please spread the word to other girls and young women!
Wednesday April 16 Registration opens for the May Katie CoderDojo . . . Mark your calendars.
Saturday April 19 GoldyBots: Teen women program robots at the University of Minnesota — Register for GoldyBots
Young women ages 13 to 23! Come explore robots and programming as you control a “Scribbler” robot using a language called Python. Make your robot maneuver on its own, dance, race, play music, and more! No experience necessary; bring a pinch of bravery and you’ll get lots of help and encouragement from friendly mentors. This cool event was created by the U of MN women’s chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery. And as a special treat: have lunch with women university students in technical fields — for fun, food, and great role models.
There’s a session aimed at middle school girls from 10 am to noon, and one for high schoolers and beyond from 1 to 3 pm. The (optional) lunch is from noon to 1 pm.
It’s free, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Register for GoldyBots.
Sunday April 27 Appapalooza — Register for Appapalooza
Join us to celebrate young women in technology! Appapalooza is the festive finale of the Technovation Challenge in Minnesota. 10 teams of high school and middle school girls have spent the last 3 months imagining, designing and building mobile apps to solve community problems and to compete in an international app building challenge. Come see each team’s “pitch” for their app and get inspired by the accomplishments of women in technology. Good cause, good eats and prizes for the participants! (Event open to women and men, girls and boys)
We need some volunteers (adults or girls ages 13 and older) to help on the day of the event. Please sign up if you can help.
Thank you so much!
